I’ve always had a “thing” for those old Pulp Fiction book covers… the cheese factor is over the top hilarious. “Pulp Marcel” is inspired by these old book covers (see below)… and the fact that I just downloaded “Son of Preacher Man”, and “If Love was a Red Dress” from the movie “Pulp Fiction”, which I’ve been listening to over and over.
Pulp art is about the drama and fantasies that women experience around romance – the stories fill endless novels, and martini-filled evenings with girlfriends.
This painting is built on Japanese newspapers from my friend and fellow-artist Sven Krebs, along with oriental take-out menus, pages torn from Daniel Steele romances, and a wrapper from some cool stockings I just bought at a boutique in Gunnison. Needless to say, I had way too much fun with this painting.
Here’s part of the soundtrack from this painting. Although Dusty Springfield sang the movie sountrack version, I just love this Joss Stone rendition….
PS. I really want to be a backup singer in my next life!
