Red Mountain Diptych
This painting is a five foot representation of Red Mountain, above Ironton, in our San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, near Ouray. It's the view from the top of Red Mountain 3, looking down on the beautiful ridge of Red 1. The grit is created from glass gel beads on the ridges, and the iron oxide color from bronze, gold and copper metallic paints. Many layers of collaged papers peek out from beneath the ridges, telling stories, creating texture, and setting the mood. In the distance, birds soar below the ridges, created from hand-made stamps.
