YES!, mixed media on canvas by Kellie Day, 12" x 12"

YES!, mixed media on canvas, 12″ x 12″

There’s so much going on with ART lately, where do I start? …

YES! – A 12″ x 12″ bike painting inspired by recent spring like weather, enough to give the best of us spring fever. OK, maybe not the die-hard skiers, but I’ll take it. I’ve spent evenings biking around with my son to the river, to the dirt bike trails and to outdoor ping pong in the park, followed by impromptu performances on the park stage! Yes, as a mom, you have to publicly humiliate yourself sometimes… oh well.

I took a break from recent commissions to get my groove back. It’s coming back, as with artists of any sort, sometimes you have to step away and go GET INSPIRED! I feel a need for a road trip and a desert trip, and then I think I’ll be on fire again! Back to my painting commissions starting this weekend …

I’m donating “Polyester Sweater“, a large pink flamingo painting which I LOVE to the Telluride Aids Benefit tonight, and heading to the GALA fashion show. It’s always a wildly exciting night with lots of skin and creative/homemade costuming and dance moves on stage. WHEW. Better drink some coffee …

I just taught an Art Bar/ two hour mixed media class with cocktails at Ridgway’s Sherbino Theatre last week. Thanks to my ten students who showed up with all ability levels and enthusiasm. A great time was had by all, and I got to watch all of you create fun pieces!

I’m currently taking Flora Bowley’s 5-week painting course, “Bloom True“… it is breaking me out of my thinking process, teaching me to be more playful on canvas, and I’m learning so much about color. Most of all, she is such an inspiring person to learn from – her lessons are far reaching and uplifting.

All of this in between my graphic design work … Calgon take me away!

  1. I don’t know the author of this quote was I like it:

“Being in control and making what you have to offer special will command attention and demand.” I believe you have done that with your painting Kellie.
