Becoming - Raven Painting

This painting captures the raw magic of ravens—their wild spirit and mysterious energy that have fascinated me since my desert days. In this new piece, three ravens sit in a circle arrangement, representing the evolution of becoming your true self.

Words like "Rebirth" and "shadow" emerge from carved spirals and Sufi poetry. Intriguingly, the ravens face away from each other, which wasn't planned, but suggests turning one's back on one's old self to BECOME the new.

Their feathers come alive through intricate textures and colors, layered with patterned and handmade papers. The background features heavily textured paints with carved elements. Every element—from the charcoal sketch lines to the gold embellishments—draws your eye back for deeper discovery.

I finished this piece with delicate highlights of gold and many layers of varnish, creating a luminous, irresistible sheen that transforms as light moves across the surface. "Becoming" is more than a painting; it's a portal to the development of a human soul.
