The second in the Peony series… love this antique green and soft pink. Kind of antiquey- but edgy at the same time. My mindframe doesn’t allow just pretty flowers. I need some dirt, and grime – some smudge and smear. Some words and off-coloredness. I listen to everything from 2pac to Ministry to Hank Williams when I paint. Whatever pushes me to the edge until it pours out on canvas.
Working on a large aspen painting now. I ran and ran until I found this forest, in Ouray, on the trails. It feels so good to be trail running again. I sat in this aspen forest, surrounded by greens and painted. My puppy dumped a liter of water on my painting, but it didn’t even matter. It’s the experience of sitting there and observing, letting the energy of my surroundings dissolve into my brain and heart, to later become a painting. And now I’m working on the canvas, a large one… summer aspens.
