Are You Frozen by Artist Overwhelm?

Are You Frozen by Artist Overwhelm?

Did you know that one of the biggest reasons women don’t move their art forward is because they are in Overwhelm?
Are You Frozen by Artist Overwhelm?

Life presents us with so many things we need to take care of. It’s hard to focus.

Overwhelm is a very common thing, so don’t feel bad if this is happening to you… But don’t let it stop you from your greatness either .

It’s very easy to stay in overwhelm spinning between all the things that need to be done – and realize five or 10 or 20 years later you’ve never done the things that have called to your heart.

Don’t let another year go by, of spinning out of focus and missing that great creative purpose in your Art.

Here are some ways to make sure your Art is in focus and thriving:

Number one  – I always do my art first. If I don’t do it first thing in the day, I will succumb to checking emails, and then following those bread crumbs to all of those things that “need” to be done.

Number two – One of my students has a “Sacred Art Day” – she gives herself one whole day a week to do her art, and does not let anything else enter the arena that day.

Number three – Do little bits. If you start by just doing one little thing, like setting out your pen and paper, or doing a little doodle, often this will lead to more work. If you do this regularly, it will lead to a regular our practice!

Number four – Do a “half day” – Designate your most alert time of the day to a delicious half day of painting. Give yourself this gift, then go have a great lunch. YOU DESERVE IT! … and after lunch, you can take care of all the details in your world that don’t need as much creative energy, like cleaning, bookkeeping, returning phone calls, doctor appointments, etc.

Another thing that can keep you from focusing on your Art, is when you can’t choose what to work on first. If you are super excited about several things at once, for example photography and painting, but you’re in overwhelm and you’re not doing either, that’s your clue to JUST CHOOSE ONE and focus on it now.

There will always be many interests. You will always have many interests, so just pick one today to focus on. That one simple thing will get you out of overwhelm.

Don’t let your life go by doing menial tasks. Live a life filled with Art, and you will live a life filled with joy and purpose and meaning – along with being recognized by your friends and family and peers as an Artist. When you do this, you will inspire others to create their best lives as well!
