Happy new year! You are here to express your unique divine spark. We each have our own creative voice, and your soul has treasures waiting to be discovered. This is your greatest adventure.
A lot of women tell me they want to discover their style. So let’s clear up what that takes…
There are four things you must do to begin to see your “style” emerge in 2025:
- Let yourself explore – try a lot of new things without judging and putting yourself on a timeline. A style is something that emerges – from experimentation, repetition of painting and trusting yourself. It cannot be forced, or expected to show up right away when you paint. Instead, expect to find your unique voice/style after you’ve done a lot of experimenting and made a lot of paintings. Be unlimited.
- Release self criticism. Let’s be honest, this one’s challenging. But here’s what I know: when we let go of that inner critic during our painting time, something remarkable happens. We relax, we explore, we discover. Remember, you’re not sitting down to create a masterpiece – you’re showing up to enjoy the simple pleasure of putting paint on canvas. That joy and freedom is where your authentic voice emerges.
- Make a lot of paintings. Finding your style is a process that cannot be rushed. instead it’s a glorious adventure. Every piece you make strengthens your artistic confidence and direction. Even the ones that don’t turn out as planned (we’ve all been there!) are valuable steps toward finding your voice. Trust this process – it’s worth it.
- Be fiercely authentic to what you love – This might be the hardest truth to embrace, but it’s essential. The more you paint what truly moves you, without worrying about others’ opinions, the more recognizable and powerful your art becomes. Your unique perspective is what makes your work special.
Your unique style shows up in:
- Color choices that speak to you
- Your signature brush strokes and patterns
- How you express emotions – bold or subtle
- Your interpretation of shapes and forms
- Cultural elements that inspire you, and so much more
If you are longing to paint more and see your unique voice emerge this year, stay tuned. I’ll be sharing 3 powerful trainings in January designed specifically to help you discover and strengthen your artistic voice. Stay tuned for details.
With warmth and creativity,
Kellie
PS. Leave a comment and tell me if you’re looking for your voice, I’d love to hear if this letter struck a chord with you.
Finding your style is a process that cannot be rushed. instead it’s a glorious adventure. It is in the listening and the trusting that you begin to express who you are.
Oh yeh …. It takes a willingness to be open to ‘whatever’ shows up on the canvas. Best to let expectations of it being perfect or exactly ‘right’ go astray. And do what you do and then add something new to make it sparkle!
So true! Thanks for your comment, Maureen
