When painting feels like a conversation with your soul

I’ve had a house full of company all summer. How ’bout you?

But in the in-between moments, I started a new painting. It’s big. Five feet by four. And I’m having so much fun with it.

When painting feels like a conversation with your soul
Right now I just want to be in the flow when I paint. I’m going back to my roots as a designer, simplifying my subject, just playing with color and shapes. Big bold graphic shapes, fun music on, and I’m more out of my head than I’ve ever been.

Over the years, the more I paint, the more it feels like a conversation with spirit, and with my soul. And what I’m noticing with this painting is that getting out of my head = getting into the flow. And getting into the flow has become a meditative practice for me. Right now I’m drawn to it more than ever.

That’s the thing about making art. It’s not about the journey, as many say. It’s about the experience you get to have while you’re making it.  It’s about getting in this flow, feeling an elevated happiness in your life, and being in your true purpose.

Painting puts you exactly in this moment, which is also aligned with the book I’m reading (hit reply if you want to know what it is!).

Here’s a quickie video where I’m playing with this big canvas.

I might do a whole series of these big simple ones. They’re that good for my soul.

With love and creativity,
Kellie
P.S. If your summer has been full and your paints have sat untouched, the artist in you is still there, waiting.
