Sandhill Cranes painting
I created this painting because soon the sandhill cranes will be here. Their miraculous flight patterns and unique sounds make me stop whatever I'm doing and look up in the sky. In November in southwest Colorado the Salmon come back to spawn, and the Sandhills fly overhead, calling in winter. This painting started with illustrative lines which you can see in my instagram reel here. I then collaged in Sufi poetry, handwritten notes, patterned paper and handmade stamps. I tried a blue background but changed it to this light salmon color in the end, for a soft feminine feel. The birds wings are finished off with Iridescent Gold Paint. Up close you can see long lines and paint drips highlighting the utter freedom of their dance.
