4 Reasons You Get Frustrated When You Paint

Getting frustrated when you paint is a common thing.

When you’re not liking your painting, it’s easy to start thinking you don’t have the ability to be a “great” painter. OR to get so frustrated you don’t even enjoy painting.

When you start feeling frustrated, it’s not a bad thing, it’s actually your SIGNAL to shift your expectations …

Here are some common expectations that lead to frustration when you paint:

  1. You expect your painting is going to be gorgeous and you’re disappointed when it isn’t.
  2. You expect creating a painting is going to “just flow right out of you”.
  3. You expect you’re going to know what to do during the painting process, but that isn’t always the case.
  4. You expect your painting will “all come together” but you don’t know all your options for making that happen.

Resetting your expectations is one of the most powerful things you can do when you’re a painter.

Most of my students find their frustrations disappear when they shift from this attitude:

“My painting should come out great or else I must not be a great painter,”

To this attitude:

“I’m just here to play and explore and see what comes out of me today.”

Unless you’re a Realistic Oil Painter, Art is not a “Masters” trade. True Art is an exploration.

It’s a willingness to show up and be a filter for all your influences to come out of you on canvas.

In order to do that you’ll need these 2 things:

  1. The willingness to show up, explore and PLAY
  2. The know-how to pull your painting together after your initial expression has come out.

This is the point where most budding Artists hit the moment of frustration – they don’t know how to pull their painting together.

Right here is where some quit, some keep going, most doubt they are any good, and a few seek outside help and really launch their Art.

Here’s what you need to bust through this moment of frustration:

  1. Watch a very experienced painter who’s work you love, and the freedom they paint with when moving through these challenging phases of creating a painting.
  2. Get Tools. I can’t say enough about having a process and tools that give you the stepping stones you need to make your way to the other side.
  3. Trust – in yourself that you can do this if you STICK WITH IT, and that exactly what you need will show up when you need it.
  4. A great relationship with your intuitive voice.
  5. Someone to give you feedback and guidance through creating your own unique expression – so that the REAL you can come out!

If you honestly want to master your creativity and feel like a REAL AUTHENTIC ARTIST, this is what it takes to get beyond the frustration level of starting and stopping.

Once you have these key things, you’ll be confidently creating and developing your authentic style – and most of all, you’ll feel like a whole person who’s fulfilled your soul.

If you’re tired of trying to figure this out on your own, and you’d like to experience the freedom and confidence of getting to the other side, and finally knowing how to create – and finish– paintings you love (and even show and sell them), I can get you there.

I have opened up a few times on my calendar this week to speak with a few committed women.

If you’re interested in working more closely with me, to realize your most authentic, empowered and ideal Artist self, then book an Art Breakthrough Call with me here.

I’ll spend 60-75 minutes with you to talk about what is going on with your painting specifically, and if I know 100% that I can help, I’ll tell you exactly how.

**Please do not book a call with me if you are looking for free information**. These calls are only for women who are ready to take their Art to the next level and invest in themself now.

Creating gorgeous paintings that express who you truly are is possible for you too – but you have to decide you’re ready for this now … As soon as you do that, I can get you there.

Hope to talk soon,
Kellie
