Express who you are and stop copying (The real reason you’re not expressing who you are.)

express-who-you-are-and-stop-copying

If you’ve tried to express who you are through your Art, and stop copying, and you haven’t seen any progress – don’t give up! You absolutely 100% have something unique to share with the world – you just haven’t unlocked it yet.

Do you want to express who you are – and stop copying?

Do you want to know you have something special to share with the world?

Or do you feel like you are copying everyone else – or your teachers – and you don’t know how to come up with your own ideas?

Maybe you keep taking classes and can’t figure out what you have to share that’s unique. You can go on this way for LITERALLY decades, making little to no progress with your Art.

It’s so crushing.

The truth is – most women either give up, or keep taking classes to learn technique – which never addresses the REAL ISSUE.

The REAL ISSUE is that they don’t need another technique. The REAL ISSUE is how to create paintings with your own heart and soul, and bravely express who YOU are.

Being an Artist with a unique look is about being confident enough to move forward with your own ideas – AND how to develop them through the painting process.

Most women go into the shadows when it comes to expressing who they are. Here are four reasons why:

  1. You’ve got to make a lot of ugly paintings before you can see the glory –and many women give up first, thinking “Is this all I’ve got?”
  2. It’s scary to do your own thing. It’s a lot easier to do what everyone else is doing. Why do you think there aren’t THAT MANY Artists who shine?
  3. They don’t trust their “inner wisdom” that’s telling them their Art’s going to lead somewhere amazing.
  4. They don’t have the tools & support to know how to develop their paintings through these unsteady phases, with forward momentum, so that they don’t feel lost at sea.

Discovering who YOU are and how to confidently convey that in your paintings is about a lot of things. First it’s about knowing yourself. But there are other things …

  • It could be about your favorite color palettes.
  • It could be your messy drawing style
  • Or your love of textures or patterns

It’s about 1) embracing who you are, and 2) learning how to convey that on canvas. (notice the two steps) … Once you do that, your confidence will spill over into the rest of your life because YOU KNOW you have something unique and captivating to share on this earth.

What doesn’t work? Doing the same thing you’ve been doing for decades and expecting a different result (ah-hem: definition of “insanity”).

You have to do something different if you want your Art to be special – Take a risk – Go big and level up your Art and your life. It’s about deciding to be extraordinary – not staying small anymore.

If you’ve been taking technique classes for years, and still not discovering your voice, then you’re going to have to try something different.

This is what shuts so many women down. There is so much beauty and heartfelt creativity inside of them – there are so many amazing paintings inside of them. They just don’t know how to unlock that and start making their greatest paintings with their own voice.

The big fat truth is this: This whole matter about you being afraid you’ll never create your own art – with your own sought-after voice is NOT “either I’ve got it or I don’t.” … It’s the artists that keep growing until they find what works for them, who succeed.

Today you have a choice – will you play small and keep doubting yourself? Dabbling and copying? OR will you be brave and take the next big step to start expressing who YOU are in your art, and stop copying?
