When You’re Insecure about your Art Ability

When you're insecure about your art ability

Hello beautiful Artist!
Insecurity can keep you stuck or frozen in your art, and not able to create your best paintings.

What holds you back for two years or twenty years with your art is not technique – it’s your mindset.

And you’ll know because you’ve taken all the classes, you’ve tried to paint on your own… and you’re still not making progress.

If you feel like you are being held back by any of these issues, your insecurity mindset is holding you back:

– feeling like you’re not good enough
– not feeling truly confident
– comparing yourself to other artists
– not getting into your studio (and coming up with lots of other reasons why you’re not)
– not finishing your paintings, because you doubt yourself part way through.

If your mindset and insecurities are keeping your art from advancing, you’re not living your fullest life. You’re being held back by your insecurities and it feels BAD.

It feels bad because somewhere deep down, you know you have art within you, that is WORTH SOMETHING. (If only you could get it out!)

Right now there is an Art Awakening. More people than ever are making art.

And that’s super exciting, because you can sit at a desk all day, and you can have a very fulfilled life in other arenas, but if you’re a creative person who is not creating, life can feel like it’s lacking that deeper meaning. I call it the sparkle!

If you’re realizing you’ve got an Art calling, and you want to feel that amazing joy of letting paint drip, you can start out by taking classes and learning all that great technique – that’s a great way to get going.

BUT … If you have done all that and you’re still freezing up and feeling insecure about your art ability, and not able to create the paintings that you want on your own – that’s a much bigger issue than technique.

What holds women back in their art is their belief in themselves. And it’s probably been affecting you your whole life.

Everyone thinks you should be able to sit down and start making amazing paintings. And if they’re not amazing, you tell yourself you just aren’t good enough. But the truth is you’ve to make a lot of paintings and have fun doing it before you get really good.

There’s so many reasons you might not believe in yourself enough to keep making Art. It could be that your parents weren’t supportive, or maybe a teacher was discouraging – or someone told you not to do art because you had to make a living at it.

This stuff sticks with you your whole life! I see it every day.

If you don’t work through this and learn how to start believing in yourself – if you just keep focusing on technique classes – you’ll be living a half life because you’re not fully standing in your greatest ability!

Let’s talk about thoughts that can start healing some of these things:

  1. Realize you are completely unique like a snowflake, and have something special to share with the world through your art – and that comparing yourself with others is bullshit
  2. Even the bad things that have happened to you, are what have made you the person you are today. You are amazing BECAUSE you’ve gone through the tough stuff.
  3. Today is a NEW DAY, you are who you declare yourself to be moving FORWARD, and the only thing that is relevant is getting all of your insecurities out of your head, in order to make your best art.

Here’s what it takes to start moving forward with your life as an Artist:

  1. Understand you have to keep going and make lots of paintings, through good and bad.
  2. To become your best self, you must improve your self talk, because that’s where believing in yourself starts.
  3. You must have a process to know how to work through challenges in your art, so you can actually finishing your paintings.
  4. Begin celebrating who you are now, and learn how to express these things about you on canvas.
  5. Work towards gaining the confidence to start sharing your art with the world (artists love to share, and the world needs your Art!)

Being an Artist is about starting to WALK THE WALK so that you build the know-how and to BE this new confident person.
