Finding Your Authentic Art – An Interview with Artist Sharon Coleman

Finding Your Authentic Art – An Interview with Artist Sharon Coleman

Sharon was stuck looking at a white canvas.

She had taken numerous classes in 2022, but always with teachers who wanted to teach her their own method.

She was hard on herself, and felt like she had to create a “masterpiece” every time.

In late 2022 something shifted and she began to paint with great joy and freedom. She created a series of paintings of her life in Florida, and began to show. People started buying her art.

Listen to this interview to hear how she moved beyond copying and started expressing her OWN authentic art, finding her joy, and producing some of the best pieces of her life.

“For years all I did was copy – I would copy the still life or the teacher – I was a copier. That was great, but it wasn’t really joyful. And it wasn’t something that had come out of my spirit to create, or my authentic self.”

Discouraged when not getting enough likes on social media, Sharon was ready to ENJOY her art, and feel like her work was meaningful and sellable.

She had been painting for almost 10 years on and off, and had all the supplies and space she could want, but her joy and reward was missing.

In August of 2022 Sharon began making some internal shifts that took her from copying to expressing her own authentic art.

She began listening to her inner voice instead of her head, and combining that with methods that freed her art and launched unstoppable joy.

“Just being in the studio every day I looked forward to it so much you can’t imagine, I just found the joy to create and play, like when you’re a child… It was just really freeing.”

She began waking up so excited to go into her studio every morning that she would paint for 6 to 8 hours at a time.

Listen to this interview to hear her journey of how she started wanting to be in the studio ALL the time, has fun no matter how her art turns out, and has produced some of the best pieces of her life – PLUS is selling.

“I did my first show… and the most fun was the people coming around and saying they loved my art, that it made them smile… and of course selling the paintings, that was a bonus.”

Enjoy the interview!

PS. If you’d like to make the shift that Sharon made with me, you can book an Art Breakthrough call like she did six months ago to talk about Art Mentoring with me. If I feel I can help you get there, we’ll talk about what that looks like. (Please don’t book a call with me if you are just looking for free advice. These calls are only for women who are committed to taking their art to the next level and ready to invest in themselves.) … If that’s you, I’d love to talk with you!

“Kellie’s methods are different than any other art teacher I’ve ever had…. There are so many different methods you teach. You can’t lose. It’s win-win. You meet a lot of great people. And you’ll find a style and method that you love after the program’s over, I know I did.”
