This video is taken from my facebook group, for women who want to Transform Your Art from Dabbling to Professional Quality.
This week we did a poll in my Facebook Group – “What’s the number one thing holding back your art right now?” – The overwhelming response was not enough time.
I get it – life gets overwhelming. But if you’re not making art, and it’s calling to you in your soul, (and has been for a very long time) it can feel sad to be neglecting yourself.
If you’re neglecting your art right now, you know it. Because life feels out of balance. The voice nags you from inside and asks, “Why haven’t you done this for yourself?”
They love their families and take care of their jobs and home, AND they know their dreams matter too. Strong women want to make a difference in life. And they want to feel like when they get to the end, they’ve really lived.
Guess what? You don’t do that by never making time for yourself. When you never make time for YOUR art, this is the example you are giving your children: that your dreams don’t matter – just exist and take care of business. Never mind what’s important to your heart.
How would that affect your self worth? Would if feel good to wake up every morning and be excited to paint and share it with the world?
Are you a woman who wants no regrets when you die? To know you went for it, and created a body of work, and actually had a show where people came and told you they love your art. How incredible would that feel?
This shift is simply to change the way you use your words in your HEAD…
FROM, “ I don’t have time for art” , TO “I haven’t created the time to make art”.
Your language is everything. It creates your reality. Once you change your language in your head, it changes the words you speak – and how you speak about your art. When you say it out loud, “I haven’t taken the time to paint”, then you take full responsibility for the priorities you are setting in your life. This changes everything. Because now you have the CHOICE to do something about it.
Life is about priorities, and we all know how busy it can get. So first of all, sit down and set your priorities.
Start by look at your long term goals –
Second, if these AREN’T a priority, then admit it to yourself – it’s OK if art isn’t a driving passion in your life, and you just want to dabble in it the rest of your life. But accept responsibility for that and use truthful words: “I love my art, but right now my kids are about to go off to college and they are my priority.” And then be sure you’re OK with not having made much art two years down the road.
If your art IS a priority, and you WANT to live your greatest life, don’t wait another day. Because the people who keep thinking about their art dream never do it. START NOW, the conditions are always impossible.
If you want a step by step process and a mentor who can help you get there – and you’re willing to do the work – I can help you do it THIS YEAR. Just look at Harriet below.
